Halloween Cupcakes | Recipe

Today I’m sharing with you some Halloween Cupcakes I made, plus my everyday recipe for cupcakes.

Halloween Cupcake Recipe

6oz Self Raising Flour
6oz Caster Sugar
3oz Butter
2 Eggs
1tsp Vanilla Extract
Lukewarm water

If you want chocolate cupcakes use 5oz of self raising flour, and add 1oz of cocoa powder.

I use this recipe all the time, and just adapt it to make whatever I want, this is the recipe I used when I baked with my mum as a child and so I know it very well. I don’t actually weigh it out when I bake, I have a spoon that I use and I do the butter by eye. I actually get really frustrated when I’m using a new recipe and have to weigh it out.

Step 1: Pre heat the oven to 180 fan
Step 2: Cream the butter and sugar together.
Step 3: Add in the self raising flour and mix together
Step 4: Add in the eggs and vanilla extract
Step 5: Your cake batter will be thick, so add a little water to loosen it.
Step 6: Spoon into cupcake cases
Step 7: Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes.
Step 8: Once baked, leave to cool.
Step 9: Decorate.

Halloween Cupcakes

I bought my frosting and decorations from the supermarket, but you could go all out with decorations. I recommend icing pens, strawberry laces, jelly fangs, or jelly sweets in other Halloween shapes.

October Book Haul

I popped into my local Waterstones a couple of weeks ago, and they had a massive sale on. The shelves at the back of the store were filled with books at £1 or £3, and so obviously I couldn’t resist having a rummage through them.

I did find that quite a few of the books were damaged, which must be the reason they were in the sale but I found a couple of Leo Tolstoy books that I had to pick up as they were both £1 each! Both of them are in great condition, and so I can’t understand why they were only £1, but I’m not complaining at all. I have no idea when I’ll get round to reading them as they’re pretty hefty books though they’ll look nice sat in my book cupboard.

October Book Haul

I also ordered The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry from Amazon for £3.85. I bought it as my book club have chosen in for the November book. I’m going to try and give it a read but I’m not sure i’ll get to the book club meeting as I’ve got quite a few assignments to do. I’m also not that keen on reading it, I’m not sure why but it has never appealed to me, yet I’ve heard good things about it.

Ilkley Christmas Film Festival

You may or may not know that I love Christmas! I’m pretty obsessed, as soon as Christmas is over I’m already looking forward to the next one. Once September hits I’m well and truly into the Christmas spirit planning how I’ll wrap my presents and also how many Christmas movies I can get watched.

At the weekend I discovered the Ilkley Christmas Film Festival on twitter, now the main film festival takes place in February but on December 23rd and 24th they are having a Christmas Film Festival. They’re going to be showing some of the best Christmas movies, a couple I haven’t seen, and even one I haven’t heard of before.

I instantly bought my ticket, costing £12 for the duration of the Christmas film festival allowing me to go and see all 6 films they will be showing, an absolute bargain i’m sure you’ll agree. They also have a family pass for £35 allowing two adults and up to 3 children to enjoy all 6 films, I can imagine it’s be a great way to get the little ‘uns into the Christmas spirit. I’m already looking forward to the Frozen sing-a-long which will be spectacular I’m sure, and full with children who love the magical story.

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

LUSH Cinders Bath Ballistic | Review

LUSH bath season is now upon us, and I enjoyed my first bath last night. I don’t know about you but I find that during autumn and winter I need to have at least one bath a week, if not more .

LUSH Cinders Bath Ballistic

Last night I used Cinders in my bath which just smells amazing, if you don’t already know I love the spicy scents of Christmas, I’m definitely not a Snow Fairy fan. Cinders smells of cinnamon and also has orange in too.

Cinders Bath Ballistic

I also really love that it has popping candy in it, when you put it in the bath you can hear the candy popping which reminds me a little of autumn evenings and the crackling of the open fire, or even bonfires!

LUSH Cinders Bath Bomb

It does turn your bath yellow as it fizzes away, so be prepared to have to scrub the tub after!

I will happily say that Cinders is one of my favourite LUSH products, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it again this year. Plus at £2.50 it’s one of the cheapest bath ballistics LUSH do, so you can stock up on more of them!

Which LUSH Christmas product is your favourite?

Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics | First Impressions

Last Monday Cohorted had the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics palette as one of their cohorts, and I couldn’t resist buying it as a payday treat! It arrived on Friday so I thought I’d share with you my first impressions having used it over the weekend.

I’ve never tried any Urban Decay makeup before so this is my first foray.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics

If like me you’ve never seen the Basics palette before you may be shocked at how tiny it is, it’s smaller than my phone! I do love that it’s tiny though, as it’s ideal for slipping in your travel makeup bag, or in your handbag.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics palette

Just like the original Basics palette it has 6 eyeshadows (L-R: Skimp, Stark, Frisk, Cover, Primal, Undone). Skimp is the only shade in the palette that isn’t matte, so if you like your satin finishes then this isn’t the palette for you. I’ve been using skimp to highlight my inner corner and also my brow bone, Cover over the lid, and then Undone in the crease. I’ve also paired Skimp with Frisk over the lid and Primal in the crease. Both are really lovely looks and easy to do. I’m really impressed with the eye shadows, the colours are beautiful, highly pigmented, and they’re easy to blend.

I can imagine this palette being great when needing to transition from day to night without having the option of going home and redoing your makeup. It’s small enough to pop into your handbag, and if you keep your day look simply you can top up where it has worn away and then do a smoky eye for the evening.

Will you be picking up this palette or adding it to your Christmas list?

Liebster Award

I was nominated by the lovely Cathy from Red Rose Style to do the Liebster Award, and as it’s the perfect autumn evening with the rain coming down while I’m curled up under a blanket I thought I’d get on with answering the questions set by Cathy.

Liebster award

I’m sure by now we all know how the Liebster Award works, every time I get nominated it seems to be slightly different but the general gist of it is that you answer the questions set by the person who nominated you, you then create questions of your own, and nominate some bloggers.

What was the last film you watched?

At the time of writing it was the first Inbetweeners Movie, but I didn’t actually watch much of it. Before then I believe it was Snow White, however by the time this gets posted it will probably be something else.

What would your Patronous be?

I think this is a very tricky question, you don’t actually get to choose your Patronous so you have to think of something that is like you at your core. I think mine would be a cat, as I’m an independent woman but also a complete homebody.

City break or Country-get-away?

Easily a country get away, I love city breaks but I’m a country girl at heart. I want little villages with cute tearooms. If the country get away included a little beach then i’d be so very happy!

What would be your perfect girls night in?

I’m a sucker for a girlie cocktail night, though I’m the only one that appreciates it. Cocktails, cupcakes, and gossiping is all you need for a perfect girls night.

What is next new recipe that you want to try?

I’ve actually just tried a new one today, Earl Grey cupcakes from my Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book. My next recipe I want to try from the book is Mojito cupcakes, how can anyone say no when cocktails and cupcakes are combined?

I also have a long list of recipes to try that are meals too, the one I’m most looking forward to trying is Paprika Pork.

When was the last time you fell in love with a book?

I’m sure Cathy has purposely chosen the very tricky questions! I’m struggling to think of the last book I fell in love with, I think it was probably Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

What was your favourite film as a child?

As a child my favourite film was Bambi,I’ve no idea why I love it so much. My favourite Christmas movie was and still is The Greatest Store in the World. I highly recommend that everyone watches is.

Describe your ideal tea room or coffee shop

No doubt about it, there needs to be an open fire with cosy armchairs either side so that you can sit in front of it with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book. I also want there to be a bookcase full of books that people can read while they’re in the shop. I want it to be the sort of place where you can happily get lost for hours, and don’t feel the need to move on so that there’s a seat for someone else. It also needs to have plenty of amazing gluten free cakes.

What are you looking forward too right now?

I’m really looking forward to Christmas, and then little Nemo being born at the end of January!

Name three things that make you smile…

New books, being out in the countryside especially when running, and spending time with my family.

My questions are:

1. Favourite Nail Varnish
2. What is he last boxset your purchased?
3. Harry Potter, Twilight, or The Hunger Games?
4. Which is your favourite chocolate in a box of chocolates?
5.One piece of furniture you would have to have if you owned your own home? (for me it would be a Chesterfield sofa, along with a cosy chair for in my library)
6.Walks on the beach or walks in the countryside?
7.What is your autumn fashion staple?
8.What is your favourite cake?
9.Which one book would you recommend that everyone reads?
10.What is your favourite piece of makeup in your collection?

I nominate Steph from Seeing Spots, and Emily from Em’s Trends.
