Bruce | Chunky Cat Cuddler

I’m sure you can all remember that I said last week I wouldn’t be buying and keeping clothes unless they make me feel awesome. Today I thought I would introduce you to one of my favourite accessories which makes me feel awesome.

2013-06-28 09.41.01

Bruce, is my glorious pig necklace from Chunky Cat Cuddler, he is from the Creature Comforts range. The Creature Comforts range includes farm animals, like my dear Bruce, zoo animals, and even dinosaurs! There is also an Animal Kingdom range which offers bracelets, and I am very tempted to buy Bruce a little friend.

As you can see Bruce is on a gold chain, but he fastens with a beautiful blue ribbon. His ribbon is so nice and soft, plus it adds a little something extra special to him.

I find Bruce to be super amazing, and people do question why did you choose a pig, well lets be honest, as a fat person you can often be called a pig. However, pigs are beautiful creatures, just like we are, and yet they are called names and people think wrongly about them. I figure me and Bruce are two souls which belong together.

Do you have an accessory which makes you feel awesome?

A trip to the bookstore | Waterstones Sale Outlet

It is so easy to sit and purchase books online, or to download them on to our e-readers. I find that by doing so I stick to the same authors and genres, which means I never really get to try anything new. However, I really love a trip to the bookstore, my bookstore of choice is Waterstones.

I love going into Waterstones because I can enjoy browsing the books, there is no feeling of being rushed to get in and out which makes you grab the first book you find interesting. I do however feel like this with one of the other high street bookstores. Waterstones has lots of space, you’re not cramped into small aisles, instead you are faced with huge bookcases full of books to choose from.

Waterstones Outlet Store

One of my local towns Blackburn has just opened up a Waterstones Sale Outlet store, i’m sure you can imagine my joy when I discovered this a few weeks ago. I just had to take a trip there, and luckily I was tagging along as my mum went to return some clothes she’d impulse bought in the sales.

2014-01-11 14.27.15

I will admit now that this store is not quite as amazing as other Waterstones i’ve been in, it has the same space and charm, but the books are not in any order, they are split into Fiction, Non-Fiction, Childrens, and New Releases, but other than that they don’t seem to be in alphabetical order within these sections or in genre order. It makes it very difficult when you have a book that you are looking for, I was after The Virgin Suicides by Jeffery Eugenides which was not in the area which contained a lot of authors with surnames beginning with E, I actually found it within a section which seemed to be home to the Bronte books. If I was in a rush and looking for the one book I would never have found it, I luckily had lots of time to spare and must have looked at each book at least twice before making my final decision.

2014-01-11 14.28.02

As I said it is a Waterstones Sale Outlet store, where pretty much all the books are buy one get one half price, but they also have a selection of books which are priced at £1, and you’ll also find ones hidden on the shelves priced at £3 or £5. I bought 7 books for £20!

The staff in the store are lovely! On my second trip in that day to pick up a book for someone else, I had a lovely chat about books with the lady who served me. She was pretty sure i’d bought enough books to last me a long while, though commented if I was anything like her they’d be read in a couple of weeks!

I will definitely making a trip back there to stock up on books and chat with other fellow book lovers, however I am hoping that the lack of organisation with titles is due to how busy the store was with the sales being on and a lot of people out spending their Christmas money. I think i’ll be making a midweek journey so that there aren’t as many shoppers in the store, people annoy me when I’m shopping for books, I get a little lost in my own world and don’t need people getting in my way!

If you want to see the books I purchased then take a look at the January Book Haul which should be uploaded on YouTube next Tuesday.

Do you have a favourite bookstore?

So White | Foundations for Pale Skin an Introduction

Now, I’m pretty pale and really struggle finding foundations to match my pale skin tone. Most foundations I’ve tried are too orange for me, and I look as though I don’t know what I’m doing with my makeup. I can spend ages blending a foundation in, and it won’t make much difference.

I’ve decided to start a little blog series to share with you the pale foundations which I try. I’ll be showing you the good, the bad, and the downright ugly! I’ll be trying high street foundations, and high end foundations. I will also be including BB creams, and CC creams under the banner of foundation.

I will also be sharing with you some of the foundations currently in my collection which were matched to my skin tone. I can tell you now that they were not good matches, otherwise I wouldn’t be on this journey.

This was just a quick introduction and next time will be a look at the foundations in my collection which do not work for me at all, before introducing you to the first in my collection which does work for me.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey and by the end of this year, we will have found a couple of awesome foundations, BB creams, and CC creams for us pale skinned beauties.

Fashion Mojo

I though I’d take the time today to let you know that I’ve lost my fashion mojo. I don’t have much interest in fashion anymore. When I started this blog 18 months ago, it was so that I could share the outfits I wore, the good, the bad, and the ugly! I no longer find any enjoyment in clothes shopping, I’m sure you’ve noticed the lack of outfit posts and i’m no longer taking part in Magnificent 7th. I used to love going out shopping for clothes but now it feels like a chore, I’d rather be hitting the beauty halls or a bookstore to spend my money.

I can spend hours browsing ASOS and come away without having seen anything i’ve liked. I went shopping at the beginning of the month and picked up a top in Primark, and I’ve worn it every weekend, it has become my go to outfit of choice, it is long enough to be worn with leggings or jeans, or my favourite pj bottoms! I hate wearing jeans but I’ve started living in them. Clothes have lost their excitement for me.

I’m sure my bank balance is quite happy that I’m not loving clothes as much as I used to, and so am I. I used to buy clothes and would only wear them once or twice. I gave a lot of my clothes to the Charity shop before Christmas, but I still have a chest of drawers which struggles to close.

I think I’m going to try and create myself a capsule wardrobe, I don’t need excessive amounts of clothing. I just need clothes which I love and want to wear time, and time again. I need a wardrobe which has all of the essential clothing for work, and then a few awesome pieces to wear when I’m not at work, like the top from Primark. I have an awesome cold shoulder dress which I bought from ASOS last May. I still love it now, and can not wait for the weather to warm up so that I can wear it again.

It is time to say goodbye to the fashion element of my blog. It’s not going to be a predominant feature any more. I will of course still share with you awesome outfit posts when I discover those awesome pieces of clothing.

Writing this I feel as though I’m saying goodbye completely to fashion but i’m not, I still need to wear clothes, and I still want to look good. I think that now I am 100% confident in my body I don’t need to use fashion as the mask that it once was, I’m quite happy to find comfortable pieces of fashion which I feel great in, rather than buying many pieces which I don’t really love.

Maybe I haven’t lost my fashion mojo, but instead it has developed and become moulded into something completely different to the fashion mojo that I started this blog with. I know that I am a different person now, I wouldn’t say I’m a better person because that would almost make me sounds as though I was a bad person in the beginning, I’m just different.

Books I hope to read in 2014

It looks like Wednesdays are slowly becoming book days! I hope you don’t mind, i’ve just become a little book obsessed again at the moment. I think i’m just so glad to be assignment free and actually to have the time to read again.

I thought I would share with you some of the books which I’m hoping to get read this year. I’ve chosen ones which have been sat in my to be read pile for most of last year. I have bought plenty of books so far this month, and I would imgaine that by now my TBR pile is almost big enough to last me the whole year with a book a week. I might just have to go an count up now! Ooookays, my TBR pile currently contains 76 books, I definitely don’t need to be buying any more!

Books I hope to read in 2014

1. Dracula by Bram Stoker.

I’ve had this book in my Amazon basket for ages, and I eventually moved it over to my wishlist, and luckily Tigger bought me it for my birthday. I just think if you’re going to spend time reading vampire novels then you really should read Dracula.

2. Looking for Alaska/The Fault in our Stars by John Green.

I have actually started reading Looking for Alaska but I really can not get into it. However, I am going to make it my mission to complete at least one of the two John Green novels I own, before I can fully judge whether or not I actually like his books.

3. The Yellow on the Broom by Betsy Whyte.

I need to read this book, it has been recommended by my Granddad, he has read it and has said that the way Betsy and her family travelled and worked is the same as what his family did. My mum has read it and really enjoyed it, so now it’s my turn to get it read.

4. The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.

I have been recommended this book a number of times, and I’ve been watching Booktuber hauls on YouTube and it has popped up so many times that I just had to buy it. I now want to get it read as soon as possible to see how good it is.

5. The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

I saw The Help when it was in the cinema a couple of years ago, and I was a mess I came out in tears and couldn’t stop crying for ages. I’ve wanted to read the book ever since then, I just know that the book will be better and contain much more detail that just couldn’t be included in the film.

Five books are enough to be getting on with, I don’t want to put myself off reading anything new throughout the year. I am sure that at some point I will actually get through my TBR pile, though it is going to continue increasing.

Have you got any book recommendations which I should purchase and add to my TBR pile?

Tink x

Ps. I’m thinking of organising a book swap, would anyone be interested? You would purchase a couple of books to send to your partner, a little like a beauty box swap.

The blogger made me buy it | Tag

A couple of week ago I was tagged by Simone to do this tag, and i’m now finally getting round to doing it. I love reading tags, but I often forget to do them if i’m tagged, but I plan on getting better at that!

1. Who are your most influential bloggers? Who are the ones that you really rely on for reviews and swatches?

I think that all bloggers are influential, it doesn’t take much to have me lusting after yet another product. I love Gemma’s reviews, I know that I can trust her to be honest. I also love Sera’s reviews, again she’s another blogger who I can trust to be honest, and I think that’s the most important thing with doing reviews. If a product has some downsides then I like them to be mentioned so that I can actually weigh up whether a product is worth the money.

2. Do you buy a product solely as a result from one review from your favourite bloggers, or do you look for more reviews from others?

I sometimes buy a product just from one review, but often if I like something then I will take a look for a couple of other reviews. If it is an expensive product then I will definitely take a look at a couple of reviews first, I don’t want to be spending £10+ on a product if it isn’t great. I’m usually quite happy to head to Boots or Superdrug and pick something up off just one review, or general hype.

3. What is your most favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?

I think my favourite item I’ve bought might have to be my Tangle Teezer, I only bought it a couple of weeks ago, but i’m loving using it with my short hair. I also love my first MAC lipstick which I bought last April, my friend got me a gift card because she knew how much I wanted a MAC lipstick. I’d been reading blog posts and lusting after one for months!

4. What is your least favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?

It would have to be the Barry M Gelly nail varnishes, I’ve never got on with them. I find them to just peel off later the same day. I bought one when they first came out, and then decided to try them again a few months later but I get the same result every time. Everyone else seems to love them though.

5) Name 5 products you have bought recently as a result of blogs.

1. Tangle Teezer
2. Soap & Glory Powder Trip (Christmas gifts range)
3. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo
4. Bioderma
5. Charles Worthington Salon at Home Volume and Bounce Texturising Spray

6) Have you ever given into blogger hype?  If so, which hype?

I gave in to the bloggers hype around Lush. Until earlier this year i’d never gone into a store except to pick up gifts for friends. I had been bought a couple of pieces by a friend but never really used them much. 2013 was the year I fell in love with Lush, that love affair is continuing into 2014!

7) Have you ever avoided blogger hype?  If so, which hype?

I managed to avoid the hype around the Urban Decay Naked and Naked 2 palettes. However, I have been sucked in by the Naked 3 palette and it will be making its way to my makeup collection.

8) Is everything you buy based on blogger reviews or are there some items you buy without checking out a review?

I often buy products with out checking out reviews. I picked up a number of Illamasqua products without having really heard anything about them. I’d had a wee makeover at the counter and loved the colours of the products they had used so I snapped them up. I don’t regret having purchased them. Usually when i’m picking up a product that i’ve not seen a review on, then it is usually the shade I haven’t seen reviewed but I know if the product itself is good or not.

I tag everyone who wants to do the tag, I usually end up doing them without being tagged in, so now you’re all tagged!

Body Confidence Week 2014

The week of 6th – 12th January saw Body Confidence Week 2014 which was created by Alybongo. Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr all saw the hashtag #BodyConfidenceWeek2014, each day had a different theme, and all you needed to do to join in was post a photo which fit the theme. You didn’t need to be a blogger to take part, it wasn’t created just for one community to be a part of.

I really enjoyed taking part, and it was so lovely to see people come together, it didn’t matter who you were Body Confidence Week 2014 was a place for you. People were swapping comments on Instagram photos, I think we most likely all went through the tag on Instagram and were liking each others photos. I know I loved checking it out a couple of times a day. One thing Body Confidence Week 2014 has done is unite us because we are all the same, we all have insecurities and often they’re ones that no one else notices as Wednesday showed.

Anyway I wanted to share with you the themes for each day, and also the photos which I posted on Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr.

Monday – “You are amazing, just the way you are”

2014-01-06 18.32.03

This was me after work on Monday, I grabbed a photo when I got in.

Tuesday – Post your favourite picture of yourself

I recently found these photos on my phone, and I love them because they just remind me of how cute I can look.

Wednesday – Take a picture of the part of your body you are least confident with

2014-01-08 16.58.592014-01-08 16.59.04

I took these two photos because the 2 parts of my body i’m least confident with are my hirsutism, and my double chins. I see so many people with cute double chins, but I have ended up with ugly ones.

Thursday – Take a picture in public

2014-01-09 14.14.51

I took this in the car park at work as I was leaving on Thursday, I somehow managed to leave at a time when a lot of students were in the car park. I probably got an odd look or two, but I did it!

Friday – Casual Fridays

2014-01-10 09.32.33

My Friday outfit was one which was super comfy, I spent the day writing blogposts and filming a couple of videos for YouTube. I find being comfy an essential when I’m taking a day out to do blogging and filming.

Saturday – Take a picture in your favourite outfit

2014-01-11 17.51.10

I reposted an old Instagram photo as my favourite outfit. It isn’t actually my favourite outfit, I just don’t have a picture of my favourite outfit, which I am surprised about. However, this is an outfit which I loved when I wore it, it made me feel super confident, and I now need to wear this again!

Sunday – Take a picture when you just wake up

2014-01-12 08.23.53

Half 8 Sunday morning, me and Love-A-Lot are just about awake!

If you took part then I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I would love to see this become a yearly week which we all enjoy and take part in. The new year sees lots of people making resolutions about how they are going to change, and I think the most important change everyone should make is to try and be a little more positive about themselves!

I want to be as positive as I can throughout 2014!

Bay of Secrets | Book Review

Book of Secrets - Rosanna Ley

I don’t know about you but I love curling up under a blanket with a book. I was very lucky to get 2 weeks off over Christmas and so I indulged in one of my favourite past times, and made my way through a few books.

I’ve decided that 2014 is the year I bring books to the blog, they have been mentioned over the past 18 months but I’m going to try and do reviews every time I read a book. I will only be reviewing the books I read for pleasure, I’m not quite sure you’ll be wanting a review of ‘Handbook of the Sociology of Religion’.

Anyway on with todays book, Bay of Secrets by Rosanna Ley which is her second novel, the first being The Villa. I would say that Bay of Secrets is one better suited to the beach than a cold winters day in December! If you like Victoria Hislop, and Belinda Alexandra, then you’ll love Rosanna Ley.

This is a story of 2 people Julia a nun in Spain, and Ruby a journalist in England. Julia enters the Convent during the second world war, and carries out volunteer work within a maternity clinic, however she begins to question the way in which the doctor and the clinic carry out their adoptions. Ruby is 34 when she discovers that her parents have suddenly passed away, she moves back home and as she is packing up she discovers a shoe box containing photos that she has never seen before.

I don’t want to give much away about the story otherwise there’s no point in you going and reading it for yourself. You will find as you read along that you begin to weave together the pieces of the story and as you reach the last few chapters you know how it will pan out. My heart went out to Ruby at times, she is so lost, and I could feel how torn Julia was, she wants to do what is right by the women at the maternity clinic but is bound because of her duties as a nun.

Bay of Secrets is not your average easy reading book for the beach, it’s a novel with something to get your teeth in which makes you want to carry on reading. History is entwined with the classic components of easy reading chick lit, making it anything but your classic chick lit read.

Have you read either of Rosanna Leys books before? Also would you like to see more reviews? Do you have any book recommendations for me?

Tink x

Ps. Would you be interested in a book swap? Like a beauty box swap, but instead you choose a couple of books for your chosen person. I’d love to organise one if there’s any interest.

Love EVERY Body #2

You may remember seeing at the beginning of December I wrote a letter okay maybe two to my body. I wrote those as part of the Love EVERY Body project/course/workshop that Leah is doing, and as you might be able to guess it’s time for part number 2!

The them for today is to write about what we love from our necks upwards, so basically our face and heads. In a way one of the smallest sections of the body, but so much goes on up there!

2014-01-04 17.59.26

I love my nose, mainly the left side because it looks super cute with a nose stud in, you’ll notice that most of my instagram photos are taken from the left and that’s because it’s the side i prefer. I love how cute I look when i’m wearing glasses, I know a lot of people don’t like how they look in glasses but i’ve always loved how I look, i think my face suits most shapes too, bonus!

I actually like the shape of my face, it’s the reason why I suit glasses, but it’s also the reason why I suit my hair when it’s long and short, the reason why I suit my hair when it’s up or down. I’ll admit it myself, I look pretty damn fine with my hair up in a scarf!

My lips are a good shape and always look fabulous when I wear some colour on them, without colour they can look a little thin.

I guess my brain is pretty awesome, without it I wouldn’t get anything done, lets be honest I wouldn’t be writing this right now if it wasn’t for my brain. It’s also great because of its interest in Theology which I am beginning to love so much! I would not be me without my brain.

Well I’m over a week late with this but it has been done! The past week has been a little hectic with assignments, but as of Wednesday they are over for 3 weeks, if only it was longer.

Find the Nomads | OOTD

A long while ago I purchased a t-shirt from Find the Nomads, a brand created by YouTubers Louis Cole (Fun for Louis), Steve Booker, and their friend Jake Evans. I decided to purchase the Watermelon Vest and took the risk that the XL would fit me at a size 20, it was designed to be a loose fitting oversized top and so I figured the risk was worth taking.

It arrived in October a while after I ordered it, they were a new company when I ordered and I understood that although they said you should receive your item in 4 weeks it was likely they would have had a large amount of orders from fans, and so it took a little longer than expected.

These photos were also taken in October, on the night I went to visit the illuminations in Blackpool, I did intend to have them up a lot sooner than this but I lost them and have now found them again.

2013-10-21 16.39.55

The watermelon vest is simple and ideal for summer, especially if you get the oversized look which it was designed for. However I think it does work well as a standard vest top, it doesn’t make me look as though i’ve squeezed into a top which is too small for me.

I decided to style it very simply and put it with my black skinny jeans, and my pleather jacket, I think it looks pretty cute!

2013-10-21 16.38.11
Watermelon Vest – Find the Nomads
Jeans – New Look Inspire
Pleather Jacket – New Look Inspire
Boots – New Look

After work one Thursday at the beginning of December I hopped on the train to Leeds to go the opening of the new TSHIRT STORE, you may have heard of them as they have stores in Covent Garden, and Guildford, but Leeds is going to be their flagship UK store.
The TSHIRT STORE began in Sweden and in 2006 they opened their first store in Malmo, since then they’ve opened 15 other stores not including the one in Leeds.
As you can guess from the name they mainly do T-shirts but these aren’t just any t-shirts, they are all made from the highest grade of fairtrade cotton. Each t-shirt is limited edition and they work with independent designers, and so I think £30 for a t-shirt is a reasonable price, I will definitely be picking one up, once i’ve recovered from the expense of Christmas and the sales!
It was a lovely evening, with pizza and champagne, what more could you want? I loved chatting to lots of bloggers, along with the staff that will be working in the store. I must admit there were a number of t-shirts which I wanted to take home with me, mainly the ones with cats on! They also sell sweatshirts, and accessories, whether you’re looking for a new phone case or want a tote bag with an awesome design.
If you want to visit the store you’ll find it in the Trinity shopping centre between Topshop and Blott.

Ps. Rachel very kindly let me borrow some of her photos because mine have gone missing off my laptop
