Style it Saturday

Style It Saturday is a celebration of individuality which allows bloggers involved to showcase their own unique style. Each month there is a theme which we interpret to suit our styles and shapes, in order to share ideas and put our own imaginations to the test!

This weeks theme is ‘Pretty and Punk’ I struggled with this, mainly because I’d originally misread it as pretty in pink. I have managed to create an outfit but i’m not sure it’s very punk in theme.

When I was taking these photos I had a slight issue, my shorts split right down the front! It was just off to one side but that explains why there’s not many straight on photos for you.

Denim Shirt – Primark
Tea Shirt – No Fit State Clothing
Velvet Shorts – ASOS (Via Ebay)
Tartan Pumps – New Look

What do you think of my outfit?

Bloggers Slumber Party

I was talking to Leah and Emily on twitter the other night and saying how awesome I thought it would be to have a bloggers slumber party, and both thought it would be a good idea.

After a little discussion we thought it would be great to have an event where we can all chill in our pj’s, pamper ourselves, but also have a bit of a makeup and clothes party. It would nice to be able to watch a movie or two and have snacks and cocktails!

Hopefully it would be held centrally so that it is accessible to most people, and there would be a ticket charge to cover the cost of venue hire and such like. I can’t tell you how much that is likely to be because I was hoping to see what the interest would be like before I start looking into different venues.

It would be an event open to all kinds of bloggers, as long as you blog and want to come to a slumber party then you’re more than welcome to join us!

What I want to know is would you be up for a bloggers slumber party?

Maybelline Gel Eyeliner

If you saw last Monday’s post you will have seen that I tried out MUA’s gel eyeliner and didn’t like it, the post can be found here.

Today I bring to you the Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner, after I’d tried out the MUA eyeliner I put a picture of it on Instagram and I was recommended a number of different eyeliners with the Maybelline one being the cheapest at £7.99. Again I didn’t want to spend too much, because I still wasn’t sure if I got on with wearing gel eyeliner and how often I would use it, so buying a MAC or Bobbi Brown one was out of the question.

I think on packaging alone this eyeliner looks much nicer, than the MUA one I bought, it comes in a box which means you can easily tell if someone else has had it out to look at, especially regarding the brush. I know that I don’t want a brush which someone can easily have pulled out and tested to feel how soft it is.

As you can see the Maybelline eyeliner comes with a separate brush and so you can chuck it away or you can pop it with your other makeup brushes. The eyeliner then takes up less space in your makeup collection. I ahve used the brush to apply my eyeliner with and it is lovely and soft, I find it better for applying a thicker line, I struggle to get a thin line, but I use my Real Techniques fine liner brush.

As you know my main complaint with the MUA eyeliner is that it dries out so quickly which means you can’t create a neat line, with this you don’t need to worry at all. I have always managed to complete a line without this drying out, which means you can avoid it going clumpy and falling off.

It is definitely worth paying the extra £4.99 and picking this up from Superdrug rather than the MUA eyeliner. If you’re like me and new to gel eyeliner then you will be able to practice to your hearts content, and the only mess will be when your hand slips and you end up with a line across your face!

If you love gel eyeliner and haven’t tried this yet then I would urge you to grab one next time you’re shopping. It’s great quality for the average high street price, and no one can complain at that.

Now here it is in action on my eye!

Which is your favourite high street gel eyeliner?

MUA Gel Eyeliner

A few weeks ago I decided to have my first foray into gel eyeliner after discovering that it was an allergy that irritated my eyes rather than makeup. I didn’t want to spend too much money so I picked up the MUA gel eyeliner, I’ve used many of their products before and they’re great quality for low prices.

I choose the shade Underground which is black, a shade that is wearable and perfect for creating winged eyeliner.

The eyeliner comes with a small brush within the lid which is pretty handy and means you only need to chuck one thing into your bag and you won’t be searching round for a brush once you’re found your eyeliner.

I have to admit straight away that I don’t like this eyeliner, I found that it dried up very quickly which made it very difficult to apply a smooth line. When you use just one stroke it doesn’t look too bad, but who manages to apply their eyeliner that way? I like to take my time and gradually draw a line so that I can attempt to get a neat line.

When you go over your eyeliner a number of time it clumps together and starts falling away which leaves you with a very messy line. Something that you don’t want after you’ve spent time perfecting your eye makeup.

On the bottom I have one straight line of eyeliner, and after completing that line I drew one again above it which shows a clump of eyeliner. At the top of my hand I have a line that I went over a couple of times and you can see that it has clumped together and will fall off if you rub it.

I found this eyeliner to be very disappointing, I was expecting something of a much better quality coming from MUA. I’ve never had any problems with their makeup before, and at £3 I don’t mind that it hasn’t worked for me. I’m sure most people would say that at such bargain prices you can’t expect good quality however I feel a little let down because I have used many of their products before and the quality has been great.

Have you tried the MUA gel eyeliner? Which gel eyeliner would you recommend?

Art Deco

A wee while ago I picked this lipstick up on the Debenhams website. I had been looking at MAC Morange but I felt that the colour wasn’t bright enough for me. At the beginning of this year I decided I wanted to wear bolder and brighter colours but was struggling to find something which I felt suited me and which I was comfortable wearing.

The first bright colour is this beautiful Art Deco Dita Von Teese Lipstick in shade Bon Bon (607). I bought this online on a whim, for £10.39 with free delivery. I had no idea what the colour would be like, or if it would be pigmented when applied.

My gamble did pay off! I find this shade to be much bolder than Morange.

Bon Bon has great staying power and last hours, even when i’m doing plenty of talking, eating, and drinking! I find that it doesn’t bleed, I don’t have a matching lip liner so i’m wearing it without and I have yet to encounter any problems, I think i’ve been wearing it for about 2 months now!

I like that it’s in a metal casing because it feels luxurious and I know that it’s not going to get damaged if it falls into the bottom of my handbag. I also love that Art Deco is imprinted into the lipstick, I feel that this adds to the elegance of the lipstick.

I really wanted to be able to give one away because I love it so much, however I spent gages searching online to find it sold out everywhere. So if you do manage to find it, I suggest you snap it up!

What do you think, is this a colour you would wear?

MUA: One Direction Lipstick Collection

I am sure that many of you are aware of the new makeup collection that has been released by MUA, this makeup collection is a One Direction range and consists of lipstick, nail polish, cheek tint, and lip polish. I decided that I would purchase the complete lipstick collection as I would get most use out of them, and today I will share them with you.

I was very excited when I heard my postman arrive as I knew it would be my Superdrug order containing these beauties! It appears that they are only available from Superdrug at the moment, they have yet to be put on the MUA website.

I really love the idea behind this makeup range, with it being by MUA it’s very affordable for the teenage fans, and MUA is generally of very good quality. These lipsticks are £3 each, so more expensive that the normal MUA lipsticks but when you take into account that they are One Direction the price isn’t bad at all.

The lipsticks are very well pigmented, I’ve only swatched them on my hand, but one swatch gives a bold colour, there was no need to go over them to get the same colour as in the bullet. I think they have a similar finish to the MAC amplified.

Another selling point to me is that the lipstick is that they are embossed, on the top it has the 1D logo and around the edges are covered in X’s and O’s, which I think is really cute! I also love that the casing has the autograph of the One Direction member for that shade, it’s just another extra detail that fans will love.

I find I Want to be a lovely bright red which pops, and is bound to be a staple within my collection. I’m always happy to add another red lipstick.

I Wish is a bright pink, which I would say is a similar colour to MAC Girl About Town, a very bright almost if I dare say it Barbie pink. It is a colour that I will wear because I only have my Revlon lip stain which is a similar colour, and earlier this year I did say I wanted to wear brighter coloured lipsticks.

Rock Me, is quite simply a purple lipstick, a colour that i’m not sure too many people will be keen on. I think if i’d seen this in store then I would have left it behind, but buying online means you don’t get to see the colour first. I probably will wear it, I’ll just have to build up the courage to wear such a bright and different colour.

Moments is a fantastic everyday colour, and it reminds me of Calvin Klein ‘Clear Rose’ which is a beautiful natural pink colour rather than a bold pink. I am actually tempted to pick a couple more of these up because I know I will get a lot of wear out of it, and this collection won’t be around forever.

Be Mine has a blue tone and reminds me of MAC Russian Red in colour, I think it’s one of those colours that will suit most people, and isn’t a shade that is too bold to scare people off wearing it.

I think this collection contains enough shades that people will be able to find a lipstick that they are comfortable wearing. I will wear them all, but some will be worn more than others.

This is the best photo to show the colours of the lipsticks, my camera was struggling to pick them up. Taking my pictures at lunch time in natural light didn’t work out too well for me, I’ll just have to practice a little more! However as you can see the pigment is pretty good to say that they are £3, and this photo allows you to get a better idea of the colours.

I have yet to wear any of the lipsticks so I can’t comment on their staying power, but after 2 hours on my hand they’re going strong!

Will you be purchasing anything from the One Direction MUA collection?
