‘Be vain and take a photo of yourself. Take a million of photos of yourself! Even if you don't post them, see what it feels like to be your own apple of your eye. Say, look at me! I am a fat bitch AND hot! Blog it, Instagram it, Tweet it (#fatbitchecourse, #nearsightedowl), etc. and share it in the comments below.’

I’d say I’m pretty vain, I love my face and my boobs!

This last one is my favourite from this collection of photos!

‘I prefer sincere compliments over too many compliments, probably because duh, I am vain and I am hearing what I already know. What about you? Can you take a compliment? Or do you catch yourself saying the obligatory self-deprecating response?’

I love receiving compliments, in a way it shows you’re doing something right, especially if you love how you look and someone else is saying they like it too. Surely the one thing we are all after is acceptance, and no matter how much we accept ourselves we also want the outside world to accept us too.

I always smile and say thank you when I receive a compliment, it makes me happy to get one and naturally brings a smile to my face. If people are saying that I look good then i’m all over that! I find it a lot harder to reply to comments when they are on the blog, and that’s because there are only so many times you can say thanks with a smile before it becomes as though that is your only response. I love it when people mention other things along with ‘you look great!’ because it allows me to add something a little extra to the reply I give them. I might say thanks with a smile but I can also add something else to it so that I don’t look insincere with my reply.

#SheffieldMeetUp Goody Bag

I wrote about the #SheffieldMeetUp here, and it was a fantastic day! When we arrive goody bags were at our places in Handmade Burger Co, and we were also given one by Lush. As you can imagine this post will be quite picture heavy.

In Lush we also got given a goody bag and mine contained Ro’s Argan body conditioner, and Eyes Right mascara. I was very happy to see the Eyes Right mascara in my bag, it sounded great when we were being told about it, now I can test it out and if it doesn’t work for me then i’ve not spent money on it.

The body conditioner looks great, I can’t wait to use it!

So excited to try this!

We were also given a colour supplement skin tint. I was given Light Yellow which is a pretty perfect match for my skin tone. I’m going to try it out as a foundation and see how well it works for me. I have yet to find my ideal foundation, and I would love it to be from Lush because of the ethics of the company and the amount of natural ingredients used.

DSCN3569

When I was in Lush I also picked up a couple of items from their skincare range. I don’t normally pay much attention to my skincare routine but since starting using VANIQA i’ve put more effort in, and so I decided I should probably invest in some products that will work well for my skin.

DSCN3554

I picked up both a cleanser and toner to try, Ultrabland, and Tea Tree Water. If they work well together, and my skin then i’ll look into picking up the Vanishing Cream moisturiser.

I’m hoping to review my Lush products once i’ve had chance to use them.

#SheffieldMeetUp

As some of you may know, yesterday I headed to Meadowhall for the #SheffieldMeetUp which was hosted by Rachel, Caroline, and Charlotte.

IMG_20130518_104437

I met Stacey when I arrived at Meadowhall and we went straight to Handmade Burger Co where we were greeted by Rachel. We were sat at a table with Claire and due to some people not being able to make it the 3 of us had a table to ourselves.

20130518_130753

Handmade Burger Co were kind enough to provide us all with a free lunch! I was really impressed with their range of veggie burgers, I often find that places only have 2 or 3 options but they had 6 different burgers. I went for the onion bahji burger because you can’t beat a good onion bahji, our lunch also included a free side, I had the chips, and our drinks were refillable!

20130518_135106
How good does my burger look?

After we had lunch there was a raffle and we all won prizes on our table. I won the prize that had been donated by Batiste, which had both me and Stacey in fits of giggles! Due to being one of the only people with red hair, Rachel gave me some extra cans of Batiste, and so when the Batiste prize was picked up Stacey commented saying ‘here comes your prize’ and then Rachel only went and announced my name!

20130518_143327

I had a little mingle and went to have chat with Michelle, Yuna, Lora, and Sade. It was lovely to chat with them and I wish there had been a little more time to natter, but maybe next time!

We also had a trip to Lush which had been organised as part of the meet. We were shown round by Lisa (? I’m hopeless at remembering names!) who introduced us to the new FUN range, which is great to play with because it can be moulded, and one of the main benefits is that it’s one product which can be used to create bubble bath, used as a body wash, and also used as a shampoo! It comes in 5 bright colours, and i’m already thinking it’ll be a great birthday or Christmas gift for my cousins.

We were also shown the Emotional Brilliance Make Up range and Caroline volunteered to use the colour wheel. I think it’s quite a novel way to go about choosing your make up colours, and it’s based on how you are feeling. Each of the colours represent a feeling or something you need. Caroline picked out calm, passionate, and glamorous, three very bright colours and i’m sure ones that many of us might not immediately go for.

We were also shown some colour essentials, which I volunteered my hand for. We were shown Charisma which is a skin tint and bronze in colour, when blended into the skin it gives it a nice warm colour, if I had a little more colour I would be tempted to purchase it. Feeling Younger is a highlighter which blends nicely and feels quite lovely on the skin, Emotional Brilliance face powder is also very lovely, it’s a translucent powder and when used to set Charisma and Feeling Younger it looks great and feels nice and light.

I was very interested to hear about Eyes Right which is their mascara, and is made of all natural ingredients besides one preservative and so it is ideal for those with sensitive eyes. I never wear mascara or eyeliner because it irritates my eyes and so this was a product that I really wanted to try.

20130518_170108

We got shown some of the ingredients Lush uses in their raw form, these ingredients included cocoa butter, argon oil, almond oil, glycerine, and Irish moss. Lush also gave us all our own goody bag.

I had such a lovely day yesterday and I want to say a big thank you to Rachel, Caroline, and Charlotte for organising the meet up, it was the first one i’d ever been too, but i’ll definitely be going to more that are on in my area!

I will be doing another post featuring the goody bags, and my raffle prize.

‘Challenge yourself to wear something that you might have felt wary about in the past. Break up your routine with something different and you might open yourself up to some radical new styles! Blog it, Instagram it, Tweet it (#fatbitchecourse, #nearsightedowl), etc. and share it in the comments below.’

Upon finding this top, I knew it would be perfect for this post, I wouldn’t say it’s something I’m wary about wearing but it is different to something I would normally wear, especially in the way I have worn i in this post. I am hoping that I will get the confidence to be able to wear something similar during the summer.

‘Do you have some fatshion tips to share? Please do!’

I think my main fashion tip has to be wear the clothes that you love, and try something new. If you like the look of something on a hanger then try it on, if you like the pattern and not the style try it on, if you think something is ridiculous try it on! You never know what you might find but by trying things on you’ll either discover that yes it doesn’t look great or you don’t feel great in it, but you could also find that you discover that something makes you feel fabulous. If you don’t try things on you miss out on finding those awesome pieces of clothing or accessories.

#SheffieldMeetUp Wishlist

Tomorrow I am off to Meadowhall for the #SheffieldMeetUp and so I thought I do a little wishlist with a few things on that i’d like to pick up!

Wishlist Collage
1. New Look White and Green Aztec Top | 2. Mac Lipstick in Rebel | 3. Soap & Glory Scrub ‘em and Leave ‘em |
4. New Look White Arrow Aztec Top | 5. Mac Lipstick in Morange | 6. John Frieda Radiant Red Shampoo

I have a khaki skirt that I’m taking on holiday with me and i’ve yet to find a top to wear with it and so i’m thinking one of these tops from New Look would be ideal! I am leaning more towards the second top but it’ll be great to see what they have from the Inspire range in store.

I’ve been wanting to treat myself to a new MAC lipstick for a while and I want to go for something a little different to the bright red I usually wear, I do have a number of pink lipsticks and Rebel looks to be slightly more of a purple colour while Morange is more on the orange side. I’ll definitely be taking a look at them both, but I think I can only come away with one!

I’m in need of a nice body scrub so that I can make sure my skin is all silky smooth ready for my holiday! Being a bit practical I need the shampoo, i’ve only got enough left for one more hair wash!

I also have a few other practical bits and pieces to pick up on Saturday, but nothing too exciting!

How To Be A Fat Bitch E-Course: Assignment and Discussion #2

‘Reclaim the word fat and do something amazing with it. Make art, take photos of yourself with fat written on you, bake a cake with fat written in frosting, etc. I can't wait to see what you do! Blog it, Instagram it, Tweet it (#fatbitchecourse, #nearsightedowl), etc. and share it in the comments below.’

I struggled a little with this assignment, mainly because I couldn’t decide what would be the best way to reclaim the word. I wanted to reclaim the word and make an impact by posting publically where people who aren’t aware of my blog can also find it. I decided to edit a photo which I already had and then Instagram it, however the picture I chose is one which I’m not sure about sharing so for now it will just be here.

‘What do you love most about the word fat? How has the word fat evolved for you?’

I think what I love about the word fat is that it is what it is, it doesn’t pretend to sugar coat anything in the way that “plus size”, “curvy”, and “voluptuous” can. They are words that people use to hide behind the fact they aren’t comfortable using the word fact but "curvy” isn’t an accurate description for all fat people there are fat curvy people, and slim curvy people, and this is because it is a shape and not a size. I know it’s a word often used so as not to offend people. I think for people that don’t like the word fat then “plus size” is the best term to use because it is understood by most people and widely used.

Fat is no longer just a description that is used to explain my size, it’s something I associate myself with and i’m happy to be associated with it. It’s not a word to shy away from, by accepting it other people can’t hurt me by using it, random people can make snide comments under their breath using it, or shout it at me across the street and all they’re doing is confirming something I know and that i’m happy about. Those people that try to use the word to hurt me can’t do any home, and if they have a problem with me being fat and fabulous then it’s their problem not mine.

BethTinkerbell

Hello,

I had a lovely friend of mine (Electrical Socket) draw me as Tinkerbell! I’m sure some of you may have it noticed on Twitter, and my Facebook page. I’ve been wanting a picture like this for ages but never got round to doing anything about it, but I decided to take the plunge and get it done!

bethtinkerbell

I am in love with it, I think it looks like me, which is what I wanted. I will be using it all over my social media for my blog, because I think it is just so very me! I also now want a new header but that will have to wait a wee while now.

I’d love to know what you think of me as Tinkerbell.

PCOS: VANIQA

I’ve been sharing my journey on trying to control my PCOS after many years of pretending that it wasn’t there. The first step on this journey was losing some weight which can be found here and here.

Well today i’m going to tell you about the next step. Many people with PCOS have hirsutism of the growth of excessive hair on the face. I have had ‘sideburns’ for many years and have taken to wearing my hair down so that they’re covered. I used to trim with scissors, I didn’t want to shave because they’d probably look much worse, and waxing at home didn’t work very well.

20130506_12570520130506_125713
Right side                                        Left side

When I went to see my doctor I mentioned it to her and she referred me to the dermatologist who I saw the other week. He said that my ‘sideburns’ are perfect for electrolysis or laser hair removal but it’s something I would have to pay for myself. However what he did do is prescribe me VANIQA which is an eflornithine cream. I was told to apply the cream twice a day and it will gradually reduce the amount of hair.

I noticed when using it for the first time that a little goes a long way, and so this should last me a good while yet!

I was told that within 4 months of using it I should see a difference, and if I don’t then it’s not working for me. I though I might do a monthly update so that you can see if it’s working, and whether it’s worth trying for you.

ASOS Holiday Order

On Saturday I decided to place a quick order on ASOS to pick up some new clothes for my holiday, I built up a basket of over £500 worth of clothes when I had a budget of only £50! I did manage to get my basket down to £46 and bought 3 new items of clothing to try.

When I got home today my parcel had arrived so I took the opportunity to try them on for my mum in the lounge, and then made her take photos so that I could see what they looked like.

2013-05-13 16.57.40

Item number one was this Skull Print T-shirt Dress which was £20, not a bad price at all. I decided to snap it up because last time there was a similar dress it sold out before I could buy it and I was gutted. However, I’m not overly impressed with this dress, I bought a size 22 which has a nice lose fit. For me the collar is too high up and I want to cut it off, having spent £20 on a dress it’s not something I feel comfortable doing. I do wish that I’d also bought the 20 so that I could compare how the fit is.

I am going shopping tomorrow though so I think i’ll look for something similar in Primark at a price i’m happy to pay for something I want to cut the collar off.

2013-05-13 17.00.28

Next up we have this Tie Dye Print Skater Skirt which is from the main range, in the sale at £8! It’s a bargain and fits, so I will be keeping it, I bought in a size 18 and it is perfect for my holiday. If you’re a 20 then it’ll easily fit you, and it could be worth checking out the other main range skirts. I’m on the edge of a 20/22 at the moment and i’m having a lot of look at fitting in 18’s and 20’s.

2013-05-13 17.01.43

I saved the best ‘til last with this Cold Shoulder Stripe Dress from the Curve range, it’s only £18 in the sale and so I couldn’t leave it behind. I bought it thinking that it would be ideal for wearing during the day, but my mum is convinced that it’s best for wearing in an evening, i’ll be getting plenty of wear out of it! I bought a size 20 and it fits perfectly so i’d definitely say stick to your normal size.

I know that not many people like the cold shoulder dresses, but I think they’re amazing and ASOS also have this Cold Shoulder Shirt Dress which I think would be ideal for dressing up in an evening. If I do send back the skull print dress along with last weeks ASOS order then I may buy it once my refund comes through.

I am off shopping tomorrow and hopefully I’ll be able to pick up the last few things I need for my holiday. I don’t need too much now, I mean I have 10 dresses!

Do let me know what you think of my purchases, especially the skull print dress.

Flash the Flesh!

After the #psbloggerschat the other week Becky decided to set up a challenge, where we will flash the flesh!

When a group of bloggers join together for a chat you know that the final result has to be super!! And so this happened once more when, a few days ago, we were talking about our preferences between mini and maxi and Becky thought that it would be great to create a challenge which goal was to show a little bit more skin and our body (but with style and no vulgarity) showing proudly our curves. And so it was born “Flash the Flesh”.

Top - ASOS
Jeans - ASOS (via ebay)

I bought this top from the ASOS main range because i've been looking for one to take on holiday with me, and who could resist one that says RAD? Unfortunately it is making its way back to them because it doesn't cover my boobs well enough to be able to wear it and not constantly be adjusting it. It is a size 18 so I wasn't expecting it to fit properly but I couldn't not try it. I will of course be continuing my hunt for one, but I do go away in 2 weeks!

I'm quite confident in flashing my legs, arms, and boobs, but the one thing I never flash is my belly, so I decided that now was the time to do it! I am hoping that I can find a top so I can get my belly out on holiday, but possibly not quite as much as I have here.

There are many fab ladies taking part, and you can find them all below!
